About Melbourne Art Services
Art installation, handled like part of your practice.
Melbourne Art Services is a specialist art installation and handling studio based in Naarm / Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula. We treat every wall like part of your practice, making each artwork sit exactly as it should — considered, secure and gallery-grade.
Led by artist and installer David Brophy and a crew of local artists and art handlers, we bring museum-grade care, technical precision and calm problem-solving to galleries, commercial spaces and private homes.
Meet David Brophy
The creative mind behind how the work lives on your walls.
David leads Melbourne Art Services as both founder and creative director, shaping how artworks are experienced in galleries, commercial spaces and private homes.
With more than two decades working across institutions, project spaces and collections, he brings a rare combination of technical precision, spatial intuition and calm decision-making to every install.
His practice is grounded in proportion, architecture and the way a piece speaks to the room around it — from complex multi-wall narratives to a single work in a family living room.
David is committed to collaborating with artists, supporting emerging practitioners and contributing to projects within Indigenous communities, always centring respect for the work and the people who create it.
The MAS team
The people behind every precise, considered install.
Melbourne Art Services is led by artist and installer David Brophy, supported by a growing crew of local artists and art handlers who understand gallery standards from the inside. Every install is approached with the same care, communication and respect you put into the work itself.

Installation crew
Artists who know the work from both sides
Our crew are practising artists and experienced art workers. They understand how fragile, irreplaceable and hard-won each piece can be and they bring that awareness to how they handle, position and protect it on site.
Community & culture
Ethical, inclusive and community-minded
Several of our team work within Indigenous and community art spaces — a focus that runs through our values. We prioritise cultural safety, fair work practices and long-term relationships on every project and with every partner.
Growing the team
Always looking for thoughtful art handlers
As Melbourne Art Services grows, we’re building a diverse team of installers who value care, precision and discretion. If you’re an artist or art worker interested in future opportunities, we’d love to stay connected.
How we work
The standards we carry into every install.
We've built Melbourne Art Services around a simple idea: treat every artwork as if it were our own, and every client as a long-term collaborator. That shows up in the way we plan, communicate and move through your spaces — with care, precision and deep respect for the people and stories behind the work.
Care for the artwork
We use gallery-grade hardware, safe handling techniques and thoughtful sightlines so each piece sits exactly how it was intended — secure, level and visually powerful. Every decision is made to protect the work first, from arrival on site to final placement on the wall.
People & space first
Our team moves respectfully through homes, offices and galleries — protecting surfaces, managing noise and leaving everything clean, calm and considered. We coordinate with schedules and other trades so installs feel seamless for everyone on site.
Technical excellence
From wall types and weight ratings to hardware matrices and safety checks, we bring structure, documentation and precision to every project. Complex multi-wall narratives and height-critical hangs are where our technical side really shows.
Ethics & community
Our crew includes practising artists and art workers engaged in community and Indigenous-led projects. We value cultural safety, fair work and long-term partnerships. As MAS grows, we’re committed to mentoring emerging art workers and building a diverse, future-ready team.
The people behind the precision
The team behind the work
Melbourne Art Services is a tight-knit crew of installers, artists and problem-solvers who live and breathe the art world. From museum-standard handling to calm, considered guidance on-site, our team brings the same level of care to every project — whether it's a blue-chip collection, a gallery opening or the first artwork in a new home.
We work across Naarm/Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula, supporting galleries, design studios, commercial spaces and private clients. Many members of our crew are practising artists themselves, with experience in community projects, public art and First Nations work — meaning every install is approached with cultural respect and deep artistic understanding.

Community & culture
Community & culture
MAS acknowledges the artists, communities and cultures we work alongside. Our practice is grounded in respect, care and a commitment to creating safe, inclusive spaces on every project.
We honour the Traditional Custodians of the lands we work on, and we value the lived experience our team brings from galleries, community projects and cultural organisations across Victoria.
Respect for Country
We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live and work, and pay our respects to Elders past and present. Wherever possible, we work in line with client protocols around Welcome to Country, cultural consultation and the safe handling of significant works.
Embedded in the arts
Our team includes practising artists and creatives who contribute to galleries, regional programs and community arts initiatives. That lived experience means we understand how works are made, how they’re shown and what they need to feel at home in a space.
Diverse & inclusive
We support a diverse, inclusive team, including members working within Indigenous communities and cultural organisations. On site, everyone is treated with dignity, kindness and professionalism, with clear expectations around safety and fair work.
Our approach
Every project is treated as a collaboration. We listen first, plan carefully and then execute with calm, technical precision — so the final result feels effortless for you and your team.
Consult & understand
We start with your brief, space and timelines. For galleries and commercial clients, this may include curatorial intent, audience flow and exhibition design. For homes, it’s about how you live with the work.
Plan the details
We map heights, alignments, fixings and wall types, and factor in safety, access and logistics. This is where our technical experience and gallery-standard systems come into play.
Install with intention
On site, we work quietly, efficiently and with respect for your team, your space and your artworks. We leave everything not just finished, but resolved — ready for opening, viewing or living with.
Ready when you are
Let’s talk about your next install or program of work.
Whether you’re a gallery, commercial client or homeowner, we can tailor our services to the way you work – from one-off projects to ongoing support as your preferred installation partner.
No pressure, no hard sell – just a clear conversation about what you need.
