Case Study
Still Point — Otomys Gallery at Villa Alba Museum
A multi-room exhibition weaving contemporary works into the layered history of a 19th-century mansion. Our role: precise installation across shifting architecture, delicate surfaces and tight visual sightlines.
The Brief
Otomys Gallery engaged Melbourne Art Services to deliver the technical installation for Still Point, a multi-artist exhibition responding to the historic interiors of Villa Alba Museum. Each room carried its own architectural rhythm—ornate mouldings, curved ceilings, layered surfaces—requiring a sensitive, conservation-aware installation approach.
Our Role
MAS provided end-to-end installation support: artwork handling, hardware selection, alignment across multi-surface walls, and all final adjustments in collaboration with the curatorial team. The goal was to weave contemporary works seamlessly into the existing visual language of the museum.
Challenges
- Uneven and heritage-protected wall surfaces
- Complex, multi-wall sightline alignment
- Mixed mediums requiring varied hardware solutions
- Limited on-site installation windows
Solutions
- Non-invasive, conservation-safe fixing methods
- Laser alignment for long-range room transitions
- Hardware mapping to protect delicate surfaces
- Coordinated workflow with gallery + museum teams

Technical Approach
Every artwork was assessed individually for weight, balance, surface compatibility and architectural context. Our team utilised laser mapping, split-batten mounting, micro-adjustable hardware and non-invasive touch points to ensure each work sat precisely within the curatorial design.
- Laser mapping across curved and angled walls
- Micro-adjustable hardware for fine alignment
- Non-invasive mounting for fragile substrates
- Team coordination for large-scale, multi-room installs
Behind the scenes
“The MAS team brought exceptional calm, precision and sensitivity to a challenging heritage environment. They worked as true collaborators — and the exhibition wouldn’t have landed the same way without them.”
